As you know, South Dakota did THIS very recently. Do they not remember what happend the first time around? What is happening in many other countries RIGHT NOW? I don't care what your personal moral views are on abortion. Statistics show that restricting or prohibiting access to abortion does not make it disappear, it only forces women to seek illegal abortions, which KILLS AND MAIMS WOMEN. HERE's another fun little tidbit from the legislation: There are no exceptions for victims of rape or insest. If a woman who is raped becomes pregnant, the rapist would have the same rights to the child as the mother, said Krista Heeren-Graber, executive director of the South Dakota Network Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault. Swell eh?
Illegal abortions are unsafe and currently account for 13% of all deaths of women because of serious complications. (emedicine.com, consumer health) You can send your wire coat hangers and knitting needles to: (cross posted all over the place) You can contact your own Senators here and voice your outrage. Bernard Nathanson, M.D., a recently converted anti-abortion activist describes in his 1996 autobiography, The Hand of God, the horrors women faced before Roe v. Wade: "Every year," according to Davis, "more than 350,000 women who had an illegal abortion suffered complications serious enough to be hospitalized; 500 to 1,000 of them died." (54) Today, approximately 70,000 women die from unsafe abortions each year, 69,000 of them from less developed countries. A significantly larger number of women suffer complications from the estimated 20 million unsafe abortions undergone annually around the world. (55)

| Today, Washington became the 17th state in the nation with an anti-discrimination law that covers sexual orientation. The Anderson-Murray Anti-Discrimination bill makes it illegal to discriminate in employment, housing, and other public accommodation, based on sexual orientation and gender identity. | ||

| HAH! They took it down! Do you remember the Yahoo photos comparing a white person "finding bread" in a grocery store vs. the black person "looting" a grocery store? They took it down. What does that mean, hmmm? Like the Bush family, the media is also scrambling around to cover their racist roots which have become so obvious even the most tunnel visioned of persons could see them. | ||

Noah's Wish is a not-for-profit, animal welfare organization, with a straightforward mission. "We exist to keep animals alive during disasters. That's it." This is all just so devestating. I don't know how people could NOt be crying when looking at all the horror, only to hear our own president blame people with one day of warning, who are poor or had no way to go and no way to get there, that their plight is their fault. And I'm fucking sick of the racist classist media reflecting their racist classist president. What the hell people.

| Kim is to report to County Jail at 10 a.m. At 9 a.m. we want all fair minded people to show up and make some noise. Let's give Kim a big sendoff and show the court that transgendered people have our support and discrimination will not go be tolerated. For more info on Kim's story, listen to KYRS (92.3 or 95.3 fm) today at 4 p.m., Kim will be interviewed on the show Queer Sounds. For those not in Spokane, click here and you can listen via webcast. Call in at 509.747.3807 wherever you are to show your support. Kim volunteers for Stop The Clock and CounterCrisis NW, she is a caring, generous friend and she got the Spokane audience to give her a three minute ovation after she performed in the Vagina Monologues. In other words, she's completely amazing. We love you Kim! Cross post this everywhere you like | ||

When I saw that President Shitforbrains had nominated Roberts, I groaned. Even though his list of potential candidates were all pretty scary, Roberts is one of the worst. I don't know his position on gay rights. But he is anti-choice, (actually SAID that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided), anti-environment, anti human rights (pro-abusing prisoners of war), and to top it off; is one of those sweet fellers that thinks the whole "separation of church and state" thing is overrated. Dude is VERY YOUNG (well, 50) so he would stick around affecting our lives and rights for a VERY long time. FUCK. The Move-on petition, Sign Here:

| Katy likes to play with a gold string. It really is just a piece of trash, but it is also her most treasured possession. Generally the game starts by me dragging the string around the room and quickly becoming bored, thus abandoning it. Katy is NEVER "full" of playing, and in the absense of a willing string puller, is happy to drag the string for herself. She loves running or walking fast, looking behind her to see the end of the string move. Recently she's taken to winding around and around the chair legs under the table, because the string gets caught up in the legs and that makes things exciting. I die of cute every time.
